PSI-Roofless Program

Functions and Assistance Aims

This personalised attention program for homeless people corresponds to one of the units of the of Mental Health Department of Sant Pere Claver Hospital Foundation, and began in July 2006. The Mental Health Unit for Roofless People works together with Sant Pere Claver Hospital Foundation and Sant Joan de Déu Mental Health Services.

This team carries out comprehensive psychiatric treatment for homeless people with severe mental illnesses who are attended by the specific social services for this group of people in Barcelona city.

The unit goes to the drop-in and refuge centres as well as directly to the street on the petition of the social services teams that find and help these people.

This unit detects, diagnoses and treats mental illnesses and is a link in the Mental Health Network.

Assistance Programs

The Personalised Plan Coordinators, as part of the personalised attention program, act as the managers of each case. Each professional works with a maximum of 10 cases at the same time.

The PSI roofless program of the FHSPC manages intensive cases with two fundamental aims:

·          To attend the mental health needs of the patient, keeping in mind the patients priorities and offering them the support and services they need.

·          To coordinate the various social and health actions of the different professionals and units involved in each specific case.
